Everyone's Garden

On any given day, volunteers may include NCG directors, impaired adults and children, girl scouts working on gardening badges, master gardeners, neighborhood volunteers, families and friends.  The garden is a bustling and productive endeavor.

From Spring through Fall, there are many activities, workshops, and groups visiting on going. Volunteers work on preparing beds, composting, planting, weeding, nurturing and harvesting.

Our standard volunteer days are Monday and Wednesdays from 9:00 to noon.  Overwhelming tasks become easy when many hands work together.

We have a 20 member CSA that helps fund the costs for operation. People are invited to join and receive a weekly share of the harvest. Wednesdays are harvest days for the where the produce is packaged and distributed to people who would not otherwise have access to fresh vegetables.

A portion of the day’s harvest is also offered for sale by donation on the honor system at a roadside stand in front of the garden.

Everyone’s Garden has established partnerships with the Berkley and Oak Park Public School Districts, Judson Center, Kadima and Catholic Heart whose clients visit the accessible garden for an educational tour and often return as valuable volunteers.

All of the activities at the garden require experience, supervision, energy and commitment to the belief that community gardening should be accessible to all.
